benefit from a retreat where you can write alongside other deaf academics,
participate in a writing group, and exchange tips and strategies on writing?
Join us at the Dr. Deaf Writing Retreat in Ål, Norway
from 15-20 December 2019!
Retreat facilitators: Joseph J. Murray and Maartje De Meulder. We are researchers with extensive experience with academic writing and publishing, and with writing and publishing together.
This retreat is open for deaf academics working in any field who are currently working on one or more writing projects. Participants will work on their own projects and comment on other’s work (peer review). Masters students and PhD researchers are welcome if they have a current writing project ready for peer review.
The retreat will take place in International Sign.
The retreat will include
- Writing time
- Writing groups with peer review of drafts
- Daily presentations/peer group discussion
- Exchange of academic writing tips and strategies
- Time management strategies
- Academic publishing
- Wellness activities
WORKSHOP LOCATION: Ål folkehøyskole and workshop center for Deaf People in Ål, Norway. The center is located on a mountain nearby a small village, part of a popular vacation region in Norway, with ski trails and nature walks by the school. Facilities include gym, training room, and a sauna.
Arrival Sunday 15 December. The workshop starts at 20.00. If you are flying in to Oslo, we recommend taking the 15.43 train from Oslo, getting into Ål 18.52. A bus will be provided from the train station to the Ål folkehøyskole for this arrival only.
Departure Friday 20 December. A bus will be provided in connection with the 11.14 train from Ål, arriving in Oslo 14.45. We recommend booking flights at least two hours after this arrival time in Oslo.
A more detailed schedule will be sent out to registered participants.
Cost: 1,000 NOK (about 105 euro), accommodation and all meals included.
